Want to host your own show on TPN?

Check out the Mobile Media Show.

November 9th, 2005

Update to my last post. Instead of taking over The Mobiles Show, we decided Keren deserved her own show! (Besides, Ewan hadn’t cleaned the place when he moved out… there were old kilts lying around, Crow’s feathers, it was a mess).

So… check out Keren’s Mobile Media Show on TPN today!

BTW - we’re looking for a new host for The Mobiles Show who wants to focus on mobile devices. Let me know if you’re interested.

The Mobiles Show #007 - Rifts: The Promise of Power

May 12th, 2005

Yes I know we were going to start the “talk about phones in the real world” but thsi opportunity came up and it’s not to be missed. The N-Gage platform (oft-maligned, never actually playtested, by the mainstream press) has some cracking titles coming out in Summer 2005. One of those is Rifts The Promise of Power, a (till now) paper based RPG system. Many people have asked Kevin Siembeida if they could do a licenced version, but he’s only ever said yes to Nokia.

Ewan catches up with Kevin, along with Trent Ward (creative Director) and Shane Neville (Producer) to talk about the game, RPG, the conversion from paper to code, and why Rifts could be 2005’s killer title…

Next Up, PalmSource Dev Con 2005

March 24th, 2005

The Smartphone world is dominated by two two-horse battles. The Europeans have Microsoft vs Symbian, and North America has Microsoft vs PalmSource (Strangely both fights have the third contender threatening to get a foothold in the market in 2005). And now PalmSource are putting themselves on display with their annual USA Developers Conference.

There’s a lot riding on this DevCon for PalmSource. They’ve shown vision in taking on board China Mobilesoft’s Linux operation as a way into the lucrative Far East markets, as well as the mid range feature phones. There’s also the major change in switching the Palm OS to a Linux kernel. And given that PalmSource are in the same situation as Symbian (ie they need mobile phone companies to build phones with their Oeprating System) they need to put on a good show to prove that they’re still a viable player to both the new markets and their existing partners.

Throw in the huge eco-system Palm OS has (arguably the largest of any of the Smartphone platforms) and you’re going to have a packed out conference of speakers, exhibitors and delegates. The DevCon is pivotal to PalmSource, and pivotal to the smartphone market as well.

How “The Mobiles Show” Uses MiniDisc For Everything

March 9th, 2005

Yes, Show #1 may have been 100% recorded on a Nokia 9210 Communicator, but the key driving force behind the production of The Mobiles Show is a Sony Hi-MD MiniDisc Recorder. Actually it’s behind all my Podcasting listening and recording (see my blog for full details) but here’s the section on how I record shows. Now, I wonder if I can convine The Guv’nors to cover the cost of the NH900?

The Mobiles Show at 3GSM - Show #2

March 5th, 2005

Fresh back from 3GSM in Cannes, the largest Mobile Show and Exhibition on Earth, Rafe lalndford and Ewan Spence have been busy putting together a huge amount of interviews and personal commentary for the next Mobiles Show. And while the first show they put together was really really impressive, it was running a bit long, so Mick and Cam have snipped it in half to get Show #2 to a respectable 45 minutes (eventually… it took a bit of time - Mick).

In Show #2, we look at the Operating Systems, the annoucnements made around 3GSM, and where Rafe and Ewan think this will take the Mobile Market in 2005. Joining Rafe and Ewan are the Chairman of Symbian, the CEO of UIQ, the VP of PalmSource, and the head of Forum Nokia. Big guests for what’s hopefully going to be a well recieved show.

Whether the post production took (a) a huge amount of time (b) was interrupted by some beer or (c) stolen by the Australian Fast Bowler, Mick has promised that Show #02, as-live from 3GSM, will be up within 24 hours… Fingers crossed.
